The annual Graduate Future Plans Survey, administered every December and May, asks about the ‘future plans’ of graduating Master's and Doctoral students, and asks respondents questions on employment, graduate/professional school attendance, and participation in career-preparation activities while at NC State. This dashboard/report displays an interactive visual interface enabling you to browse through survey questions by content area and filter by college, department, and plan.

Additional Information

Opinion data are collected from graduating Master's and Doctoral students participating in the December 2024 and May 2025 Graduate Future Plans Survey. Enrollment (e.g., college, department, plan) data is collected from the NC State Student Information System (SIS). More information on the Future Plans Survey, including a methods report summarizing the survey administration and providing response rates, along with a copy of the questionnaire, is available on the UDA website.

Note: "Graduate" refers to students' academic career. "Career office" refers to career services provided by the university. “IAA” (Institute for Advanced Analytics) has been included as a college/unit for reporting purposes in this dashboard. "Student Primary Academic College" associated with IAA is the Provost’s Office.

Definitions

Academic Year
Academic Year refers to a one year period of sequential terms, beginning with Fall, followed by Spring, Summer I, and Summer II. For example, the 2020-2021 academic year consists of the Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Summer I 2021, and Summer II 2021 terms.Academic years may be represented by the 4-digit year of the starting calendar year hyphenated with the 4-digit year of the ending calendar year or the 4-digit year of the beginning calendar year hyphenated with the 2-digit year of the ending calendar year, and are typically preceded by 'AY.' For example, AY 2022-2023 or AY 2022-23 may be used to represent the academic year period Fall 2022 through Summer II 2023.

Career (NC State)
Career (NC State) is an NC State broad categorization of the academic level of students. Values are ''AGI - Agricultural Institute,'' "UGRD - Undergraduate," "GRAD - Graduate," "VETM - Veterinary Medicine," and "NDS - Non Degree Status."

Degree Type
Degree Type indicates the level of degree or certificate. Values include ''Associates'', ''Associates Certificate'', ''Bachelors'', ''Masters'', ''Doctoral'', ''DVM'', ''Undergraduate Certificate'', ''Graduate Certificate'', ''VETM Certificate''

Student Primary Academic College
Student Primary Academic College is the Academic College associated with the student's primary plan.

Values include CALS, CED, Design, COE, CNR, CHASS, COS, TEX, PCOM, UC, CVM

Student Primary Academic Department
Student Primary Academic Department is the code that uniquely identifies the department housing the primary major or non-degree program that a student is pursuing.
